As I continue to refine my memoir and get it ready to be published, I have begun the process of talking to the friends and family who are actually in the book.
I know I need to ask permission to use them as characters, but asking makes me feel excited, anxious and a little worried. So many people impacted our 101-day NICU stay, and I want to do each person justice. I don't know that I could ever truly put into words how much our friends and family did for us, but I have tried.
This new painting, Love Never Left, was created while I was asking a friend for permission to include her in my book.
Love Never Left honors others’ wisdom, experience and my admiration for the unconditional love they have demonstrated. There were people who showed up for us during some of the hardest days of our lives, and their love never left.
I am happy to say that I was given permission to use her in my story—and, maybe even more importantly, she liked what I wrote.
There is something incredibly special about getting to share these pieces of our story with the people who lived them alongside us.
I cannot wait for you to read my memoir once I get it published.
